Frequently Asked Questions

How much do you charge?

Every wedding is unique. We have created packages of the most typical requirements, details of these can be found on our packages page. However, flexibility is our middle name and please don’t think that because you don’t fit into one of our regular packages that your requirements can’t be met, or will be expensive. We’ve never had to do a hard sell (we’re not sure we know how to!), so please feel free to get in touch as we will be happy to answer your questions or to provide you with a personalised quote.

What is the difference between traditional and reportage photography?

This is a commonly asked question. In the most basic terms, traditional photography is the formal photography of the bride and groom and their guests. These shots are set up and have the advantage of knowing that you will be sure of having photographs of all the important guests. Typically we find that parents in particular prefer these shots to the more informal reportage style. Reportage photography is where the photographer roams around the group and takes candid photographs of the guests in an unobtrusive manner. The advantage of these shots is that they capture people in a much more relaxed manner and are often more reflective of the overall day. During reportage style shots, the photographer never manufactures a particular shot.

Do you recommend reportage or traditional photography?

This very much depends on your requirements. As a standard answer we would typically recommend a mixture of both…but it’s your day and we are happy to go into more detail about the pros and cons of each so you can make your own decision.

We like your on-line photos; can we see an album?

Of course, we are more than happy to meet up in person and show you complete albums of recent weddings. Wedding magazines suggest you should ask to see the shots from at least one complete wedding as proof that the photographer can work under pressure and take more than one or two photos from each wedding. We will be delighted to show you 2 completed albums, plus complete sets of photos from as many weddings as you wish before we bore you!

What will you be like on the day?

Both Rob and Tanya are very friendly and easy going. We believe that it is your day and we are there only to take the photos and not to take over, or over organise your day. Rob’s manner puts everyone at ease, he will not be telling you to make love to the camera (unless he is trying to make you laugh!). If you are having group photos, Tanya will have the schedule and will work through it, ensuring the photography is carried out in a way that ensures no one feels that they are being rushed, but in an organised manner to ensure that everyone can get on with the process of enjoying themselves. If you are having reportage style shots, we will move among you and your guests in an unobtrusive manner.

Do you use film or digital?

Typically we shoot digitally. Rob uses a professional digital camera (Nikon D200) which takes very high resolution shots. There are a number of benefits to shooting digitally…principally, we can easily provide you with a CD or web gallery for viewing and sharing with friends and family, additionally, Rob can view the images as he takes them, and make sure that you have got your eyes open in every shot!

Do you shoot in colour or black and white?

The beauty of digital photography is the ease with which a photograph can be shot in colour and changed into either black and white or sepia (brown tones). When we give the photos to you, we normally convert the ones that we think will work best to black and white (or sepia if you prefer); however, we will be happy to provide any images that you wish to black and white or sepia.

Do you ask for a deposit?

Yes. We ask for a £150 deposit to confirm the booking. The remainder of the balance is due before we release the final photos/album/CD to you.

How long should we allow for the group shots?

This is a little bit difficult to answer, as each wedding is unique. The short answer is as long as you can as this will ensure that photos are not rushed. The main points to bear in mind are the number of group shots, the location of the group shots (if you are serving drinks and canapés near the venue, and the photos are a 5 minute walk away it can sometimes take time to get the groups together), the number of style of your couple shots and also how ‘rowdy’ your guests are. As a general guideline, for a wedding with around 80 guests, we like to have around 1.5 hours. We can work with less, and we can take more photos with more! Please feel free to get in touch with us to discuss your particular requirements.

Do you attend every booking?

Yes. Rob and Tanya attend every booking together. Should circumstances out of our control occur to prevent us from attending your wedding (we should stress this has never happened); we would work with you to find a replacement photographer that met your requirements.

How long have you been a photographer?

Rob has been a professional photographer for over 15 years. In July 2000 after many years of working for a London Museum (where he regularly photographed visiting dignitaries such as the Queen) he decided the time was right to set up as a freelance photographer. Until 2003, Rob limited his wedding photography to friends, and friends of friends. Demand has risen, so Rob (and Tanya who has recently quit her job as a marketing manager to dedicate more time to wedding photography) recently set up Such a Perfect Day.

Are you a member of a photographers association?

No. Membership of these associations is often valuable, but they do not guarantee the quality of an individuals work. I have been a professional photographer for over 20 years, and we believe the quality of Rob's work speaks for itself.

Can you provide an extra photographer?

Yes. Rob has been a photographer for many years, and has friends and acquaintances that he knows and trusts to work with him.

What happens if your camera breaks?

We always carry at least one back up camera. We would simply change cameras, it is highly unlikely that you would even know that one of the cameras had broken.

What happens if the weather is bad?

When we visit the venue with you we will discuss with the venue and you the alternatives for bad weather photography. We bring lights so if we need to move inside we are well prepared.

Are you good value for money?

We believe we offer outstanding value for money. Rob is an exceptional photographer and many clients have commented on how their wedding photos are better than those of their friends and family (who very often have paid more). We know we are not the cheapest, but in terms of what we offer and our professional approach ensures that we consistently deliver over and above what people are expecting.

Do you charge a travelling fee?

We don’t charge a travel fee for locations in London and the South East. If you are getting married outside of this area, please contact us to discuss.

Do we need to feed you?

If we are working over 6 hours we appreciate a meal!
